El verbo TENER no solo se usa para posesiones. También se usa para expresar estados físicos y emocionales básicos.
The verb TENER is not only used for possessions. It's also used to express basic physical and emotional states.

En español decimos "tengo hambre" en lugar de "estoy hambriento". Son expresiones muy comunes e importantes.
In Spanish we say "tengo hambre" instead of "estoy hambriento". These are very common and important expressions.
